NOTE: As of Feb. 29, 2024, Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC) has rebranded to Landmarks for Families. Our nonprofit, community programs and residential services remain committed to cultivating thriving youth and families in this new chapter.
Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC) was recently awarded a $5,000 Caritas Grant by Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina. CYDC plans to use this grant funding to help with costs associated with transportation for its 38 residents to and from schools, activities, jobs, doctors’ appointments, visits with their families and relatives and court appearances.
CYDC’s mission is to empower and equip our community’s most vulnerable children by providing a safe environment, educational support, and career readiness, in collaboration with families and community partners. They provide housing to up to 38 residents across two campuses in North Charleston and Berkeley County.
“Imagine a carpool for 38 teenagers and youth who all need to be at various activities, appointments, and schools across town,” said Beverly Hardin, CEO of Carolina Youth Development Center. “Our staff are dedicated to creating normalcy for each youth during their time at CYDC but transportation can be an issue. This grant will allow us to cover some of our transportation costs. We are thankful for community partners like Sisters of Charity that allow us to continue providing these critical services for youth in care.”
The grant was awarded to 77 South Carolina nonprofits to help meet the immediate needs of people experiencing poverty throughout the state.
“Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina is inspired by the recipients of the 2019 Fall Caritas Grant. These nonprofits use grant funding to address immediate needs and enhance people’s lives across our great state,” said Tom Keith, president of Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina. “By being knowledgeable about their communities, our grantee partners are able to provide valuable services. They’re also examples of good to the rest of us.”
