Carolina Youth Development Center Names Library in Honor of the Late Ramona W. Hale

NOTE: As of Feb. 29, 2024, Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC) has rebranded to Landmarks for Families. Our nonprofit, community programs and residential services remain committed to cultivating thriving youth and families in this new chapter.

(North Charleston, SC, December 13, 2018) Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC) is proud to honor the late Ramona W. Hale, a long time donor and friend of the organization, by naming the Bakker Career Center Library in her honor.

Ms. Hale was born in St. George, South Carolina in 1920 and led a life of service to her community through involvement in several civic organizations, churches and schools, centered around the Charleston, SC area. Her passion for education, music and philanthropic pursuits were truly the hallmark of her life and her love of reading was known to all. CYDC was honored to receive her generous bequest and chose to name the library in memoriam.

Ms. Hale’s longtime friends Ms. Kate Lloyd and Mrs. Betty Jane Dillon attended the library naming ceremony and shared memories of a friend who sang, wrote poetry, and told great jokes— never the same one twice. They mused that she was the friend everyone wanted to be and be around. CYDC is proud to carry her legacy forward and is so grateful for her gift.

“We were so honored to receive this gift from Ms. Hale and know that her legacy of service and love of reading will continue to influence the work of CYDC for years to come,” Beverly Hardin, CEO.
CYDC, originally known as the Charleston Orphan House, has cared for the children of South Carolina since 1790. CYDC is passionate about kids and families and committed to its historical legacy of leading the way for youth in foster care. CYDC’s holistic approach to supporting children, young adults and families sets the organization apart; as does the desire to be at the cutting edge of what the community needs.
