NOTE: As of Feb. 29, 2024, Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC) has rebranded to Landmarks for Families. Our nonprofit, community programs and residential services remain committed to cultivating thriving youth and families in this new chapter.
The Post and Courier published a story from Carolina Youth Development Center on Sunday, December 11 as part of its Good Cheer Fund article series.
Their article shares the heart wrenching story of Joanne,* who recently lost her husband, and who has struggled financially since his passing to take care of her two children, ages 16 and 4.
Joanne’s family suffered another setback recently when they received notice from Social Security that they were overpaid in 2015 and had to sacrifice some income. This has caused more financial hardship and is currently a barrier to obtaining much-needed resources.
They must rely on the generosity of the community to assist with basic necessities, and donations from the Good Cheer Fund, a Lowcountry community outreach program that helps people in need during the holiday season, will allow them to address these essential items.
The Good Cheer Fund traditionally begins the Sunday after Thanksgiving and runs through Christmas Day, with the Post and Courier publishing daily updates of inspiring accounts from the six beneficiaries that includes Carolina Youth Development Center.
Contributions to The Post and Courier’s Good Cheer Fund have helped the less fortunate in the Lowcountry since 1927. To read the full article and learn more about how you can help families such as Joanne’s, click here.
