National Human Trafficking Awareness Month

January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month—a time to shine a light on a heartbreaking reality faced by too many children and teens. Did you know that 19% of youth who run away from home become victims of trafficking? Behind this statistic are real stories of pre-teens and teens who feel unloved, unheard, and disconnected.

Traffickers exploit these vulnerabilities, offering the attention and affection many teens crave but aren’t being shown at home. By addressing these emotional gaps and strengthening family bonds, we can help protect vulnerable youth and empower families to stay connected during difficult times.

Connection: The Key to Prevention

At Landmarks for Families, we believe that prevention begins with connection. That’s why we offer our Connection Group Workshop, a research-based program designed to help parents and teens strengthen their relationships during the critical transition to adolescence. This program equips families with practical tools to foster open communication, navigate challenges, and deepen trust—ensuring that no child ever feels compelled to seek love and acceptance elsewhere.

Our Connection Group Workshop is designed for families with teens and pre-teens ages 10 to 17. It provides a supportive space where families can rebuild trust, improve communication, and tackle the unique challenges of adolescence together.

Here’s what the workshops offer:

  • For Parents: A safe space to connect with other parents, share experiences, and explore strategies for parenting teens in today’s world.
  • For Teens: A chance to reflect on family relationships, express their needs in healthy ways, and gain tools to navigate life’s challenges.
  • For Families Together: Joint sessions that focus on fostering stronger bonds, rebuilding trust, and learning new ways to stay connected as children grow.

These workshops go beyond simply teaching skills—they are a lifeline for families striving to nurture relationships during one of the most formative times in their children’s lives.

Small Changes, Big Impact

Every family faces challenges, and conflict can feel overwhelming.  But even small, intentional changes—like fostering better communication or building trust—can have a transformative impact.

At Landmarks for Families, we provide families with the guidance, tools, and support they need to create a safe and loving environment. Together, we can prevent human trafficking and help every child grows up feeling valued, loved, and secure.

Get Involved

If you’re a parent of a teen or preteen—or if you know a family who could benefit from this program—don’t wait. Our Connection Group Workshop is an opportunity to strengthen families, prevent trafficking, and create brighter futures for our youth.
