CYDC Staff Surprise Lindsay with Clemson Acceptance Letter
Ever since North Charleston High School senior and CYDC resident Lindsay* applied to Clemson University last fall with help from CYDC Bakker Career Center staff and her mentor, she had been anxiously awaiting news from her top college choice.
On Monday, February 13, the highly-anticipated Clemson letter finally arrived in the mail, with the large, bolded words “Tigertown Bound” typed on the outside of the letter.
Interim CEO of CYDC Beth Kerrigan and CYDC School Liaison Miranda Burton rushed to North Charleston High School to deliver the good news to Lindsay in person.
When she spotted the purple and orange Clemson Tigers’ envelope in Beth’s hands, Lindsay realized her dream had been attained, and she cried tears of joy.
The acceptance letter was read aloud to Lindsay and she put her hands to her beaming face and shrieked with delight.
North Charleston High School Guidance Counselor Rhiannon Rainsford gave Lindsay a huge hug (pictured) as they celebrated this milestone life achievement.
Lindsay has come a long way since arriving at CYDC in December 2015. Removed from her home due to alleged acts of sexual abuse involving one of her nine siblings, life was anything but hopeful. However, CYDC provided the secure and supportive environment she was lacking, allowing her to focus on academics and prepare for her future.
Lindsay, who completed a science internship with the College of Charleston last summer, will now be joining Clemson’s Microbiology program, where she plans to study to become a Neonatal Nurse. We are so proud of Lindsay for this impressive accomplishment and are confident that she will find success in this next chapter in her life!
